This section of the website is intended for veterinary surgeons considering sending animals for second opinion/referral to the Barrier Animal Care Clinic.

Behaviour Unit
Working in association with Judith Adams MSc. PG Dip AS (CABC), we are now providing a referral service for cats and dogs with behavioural problems. Judith, a Member of The Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors, has been working in this field for over ten years and as such has built up a wealth of experience.

Examples of cases that benefit from referral include aggression, destructiveness, toileting problems, marking spraying, self mutilation, vocal behaviour, nervousness, car travel, livestock chasing and general control.

Appointments take place either at the clinic or in the client’s home depending on the problem being addressed. The initial consultation is likely to last about two hours. Treatment programmes vary according to the nature and severity of the problem. Often only one consultation is necessary. Further advice and aftercare can be given over the telephone. Where treatment dictates it, a follow-up appointment can be arranged.

The cost is currently £200+VAT for the consultation and all follow-up support from Judith until the problem is resolved. A full report is issued to the referring vet.

If you would like to refer a case to Judith, please complete this referral form and fax/E-mail to the clinic.

Exotics
We are now providing a second-opinion service for exotic animals. Joanna Hedley BVM&S MRCVS is enrolled on the RCVS Certificate in Zoological Medicine, and is the vet for the South Essex Wildlife Hospital. William Justice BVSc MSc (Wild Animal Health) MRCVS has recently finished his Masters and continues to work part time for the Zoological Society of London.

Both vets are happy to see all types of avian and exotic species and provide telephone/E-mail advice. Our equipment includes digital X-ray machine, fixed and rigid endoscopy, ultrasound and artificial ventilator for general anaesthesia. We can also provide hospitalisation facilities in our climate-controlled exotics ward. Referring vets will, of course, be issued a report including copies of any X-rays taken.

You may wish to visit our micro website www.exoticpetvet.co.uk for further information on the types of exotics we see.

If you would like to organise an appointment for a second-opinion on an exotic animal, please complete this referral form and fax/E-mail to the clinic.
