At the Barrier Animal Care Clinic we provide treatment
to more than just the average cat or dog, with reptiles, birds, “small
furries”, and wildlife being frequent patients at the clinic.
Although we are not specialists in exotics we have two vets (Jo Hedley
and Will Justice) who have a keen interest and experience in working
with these species.
Jo has completed reptile husbandry courses by the Proteus
reptile trust and Tortoise
Trust, and is currently working towards a Certificate in Zoological
Medicine. She works at the clinic 4 days a week as well as at a local
wildlife hospital/exotics rescue centre, resulting in her vivariums
always being full!
Will meanwhile, has just completed a Masters degree in Wild Animal
Health, and works at the clinic 3 days a week, in addition to gaining
experience in zoo work
in his free time.
Facilities
The clinic provides full hospitalization facilities in our new climate-controlled
exotics ward. This contains a variety of vivariums for snakes and
lizards, open-topped pens for tortoises, and cages and incubators
for birds, rodents and rabbits.
Specialised diagnostic equipment is often necessary to deal with these
smaller species and our facilities include a digital x-ray machine,
rigid and flexible endoscopy, and an artificial ventilator for reptile
and bird anaesthetics.
For any further information on our services
or facilities please follow the links
or contact us at the clinic.
